GREAT BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHERS PART lll

The great craziness found on the everyday street corner. The life that lives in the photographs. There so alive and bursting at the seams with life, just great plain life with all its absurdity and craziness. As I set up my camera on the busy streets of early morning Paris all my senses become entangled and stimulated by the gushing life that pours into the streets. I smell the street. The air. The street salesmen selling their produce on the corner in the photograph. I see the craziness in the plainness. The beauty of life. The chaos of everyday life as it forms a symphony of sounds like no other. The crowded streets infiltrate my ears, I hear the confusion and loud bangs of cars and people all clashing with one another. I taste the salty almost dirty air. The bakery on the corner, the smoke of cigarettes and the damp asphalt all forms inside my mouth of this busy street in paris. I feel the dampness while also feeling the light warm sun on my back as it starts to rise above the buildings in the morning. I feel the energy of the people. The chaos.

I would like to create a collage of images by him something chaotic like his work. Just a big old collage something massive of all his best works in all different directions all overlapping each other.

MURAL PROJECT PREVIEW

Are theme could be all are different classes. Like, we could take pictures from theater class, geometry class and all different classes and mix them all together. I think we should open it up to all cameras because it could be more varied that way, also I don't have an iPhone or any of that stuff, because I'm to cool for smart phones. Against the brick wall in front of campus like were parents drop off and pick up their kids so outsiders could see it and weather and nature would take its course on the panel adding its own touch. Id also like that because I love brick walls and it would look fantastic in the shining sun against that great big brick wall.

ABANDONED AMUSEMENT PARKS

My favorite abandoned amusement park from the two articles was Shidaka's Utopia, Beppu, Kyushu, Japan.  Why I want to go to this amusement park is because its been totally left like one day the owners just left so its all intact and beat up and beautiful. I also think it'll be very scary because the haunted house is uninhabited and rusted and just plain terrifying!
I want to photograph
1) This abandoned insane asylum san antonio
2) The city of austin power plant
3) Abandoned Hospitals
4) Burning man
5) Carnivals

I think it would be fun to take pictures of this place because theres something so great about pictures of decaying old rotting places. It would be scary as well all alone and abandoned and the history it has. I would love to take pictures here id take pictures of almost everything, it would be very exciting for me. I really love taking pictures of decaying and abandoned places. So anything like the paint chipped walls would be great for me to take. Also, since its an asylum it would even be more exciting and fun.

All I would need would be my two t3is and my lenses and some battery packs id have my girlfriend drive me since she has a license and it wouldn't cost much either because its so close to austin. I would need to research it better to pinpoint its exact location or maybe just ask the locals. Im not worried about breaking any laws like trespassing because I wouldn't be hurting anyone id just take pictures and leave only footprints. I wouldn't destroy or break anything just take pictures. And if I get arrested my parents would be fine picking me up from the police station for a good cause like this. So theres nothing really holding me back I think I'm going to go take pictures of this place soon. Id just be quick so no cops would get me. :)

AFRICA

I found this article to be sad because its devastating to think about all the terrible obstacles facing the african animals. It really made me think and ponder how sad it would be without those beautiful creatures. The photographs are beyond spectacular I found them breathtaking. The photographs completely blew me away they were some of the best I have ever seen.

This photograph is my favorite because it gives me a sense of feeling. I feel dirty and dusty, my eyes sting its very personal and beautiful. The color and focus is spot on, you can see the texture of the elephants skin, almost touch it even. In this photograph you can tell the photographer used simplicity as the background is plain and undistracting allowing the elephant to really pop off the paper. Nick Brandt  (the photographer) uses a Pentax 67ll with only fixed lenses. He does this because he doesn't want to zoom into the picture from far away he wants to take the photograph up and close allowing the viewer to really feel there and connected with the subject. He takes this photographs because he loves these animals and wants to photograph them before there gone forever. He hopes that we can truly see these animals in all their beauty before its too late.
"What I am interested in is showing the animals simply in the state of being—before, in the wild at least, they cease to exist. This world is under terrible threat, all of it caused by us."

PEER REFLECTION

http://mayleeyphotojournalismblog.blogspot.com/2013/10/academic-shoot.html

I think she followed the lines rule the best although if she had a teacher at the end of the lines as the subject it would've worked better because you want the lines to lead to a subject.

I think she followed framing the worst as the framing photograph looked more like rule of thirds. It wasn't framing at all just two subjects, I would've used her framing photograph for her rule of thirds photograph.

I like how the photographer sometimes uses a little tiny bit of a dutch/crooked angle on her photographs which make them interesting. She has a few really nice photographs in here and she should be very proud of them.

I feel like she could improve upon just looking for the rules better and following them a little closer especially for a shoot like this.

POST ACADEMIC SHOOT REFELECTION

1) The biggest challenge was getting the courage to ask random teachers if I could come in and take photographs of their class, as well as being quick and not being distracting while inside, I found it extremely challenging. I had to take the photographs fast and not distract which is very hard for me if I wanted a truly exceptional photograph.

2) Framing was the most difficult for me, because there is so much clutter and other stuff in classrooms that you really don't want in your photograph.

3) Not worry so much and do whatever it took to take better photographs. Even if it was distracting I should've done it, because my pictures turned out pretty terrible. Im embarrassed about how awful they are.

4) Keeping my eyes and mind on getting the rules of photography down.

5) Rule of thirds

6) Framing

7) I think Im good on all the rules. I understand them.

ACADEMIC SHOOT

SIMPLICITY

1) I followed the rule of simplicity pretty well because the subject is standing in front of a plain non distracting background.
2) The subject is one of my teachers, teaching.
3) Yes,it is very clear to people what the subject is, if you follow the rule of simplicity you will always be able to find your subject.
4)  I feel like I followed the rule of simplicity well.
FRAMING
1) I followed the rule of framing pretty well, as the kids heads form a frame.
2) The subject is the green water bottle and stapler.
3) Im not sure if the subject is that clear to people, I should have probably had a better subject but when I saw such a great setup for the rule of framing I just took it immediately.
4) I feel I followed the rule of framing well, I just wish I would've had a better subject and without one it makes this photograph flawed.
 LINES
1) I followed the rule of lines pretty well, as the students heads for form lines. Maybe though, I could have made it more easier to tell what rule I was going for and have a subject at the end of the lines which is what you're supposed to do in this rule.
2) The subject is the students as their heads form lines.
3) I think its pretty clear to people that the students are my subject but I can also see how someone could get confused and maybe see something else as their is a lot going on in this photograph.
4) I think to better show this rule I should have had a teacher at the end of the lines to show that the lines always lead to the subject.

RULE OF THIRDS
1) I followed the rule of thirds pretty well as the dude in the blue shirt (the subject) is in the third left of the photograph.
2) The subject is the guy in the blue shirt.
3) Yes, I think its pretty clear that the kid in the blue shirt is my subject because the other persons head is out of focus and Im clearly aiming the picture towards the kid in the blue shirt.
4) I think I followed the rule fine, its just I could've taken a better photograph. The quality and creativity is low in this one.

BALANCE
1) I think I followed the rule of balance pretty well as I was looking for geometric shapes and saw that their heads made a triangle, which give an image balance.
2) The subject is the ginger.
3) Yes , I think its pretty clear that the ginger is the subject because he is closest to me and totally in focus while the other two are out of focus.
4) I think I followed the rule well, Its just again that I wish I could've taken a better photograph, something more aesthetically pleasing and creative.
