HOW DO THE PROS DO IT

1) Alyssa Schukar
A story about a bulimic person with some singles of a track hurdler and a roller derby girl.
3 Problems
A) Didn't get up close and personal with the subject.
B) Other people have done the story before better
C) Always used the same kind of lenses and same distances, didn't vary it up at all.

A) Liked the composition of the man sweeping up rubble in Haiti, liked the colors she captured and how she set up the photograph.
B) Liked the picture of the track hurdler falling down. They liked how she got low to shoot it which gave it a unique angle and liked the emotion she captured in it.

I thought it was pretty good overall I didn't really like her story that well, but I thought her single photos were really great and she captured some really fantastic images like the track hurdler, the roller derby girl and the guy sweeping. If she would've done a better story I think she would've done way better.

2) They liked how he had a very good eye and how he was creative and they liked how he varied up his angles and pictures through different techniques and distances. They also liked the emotions he caused.
I saw his strengths were that he had a very good eye and was creative in trying new techniques.
I didn't really see any weakness except id probably suggest he tries shooting different topics than just sports because most of his photos of are sports.

3) They wanted to reward diversity and they choose the one with the most good pictures of different styles and pictures. They also didn't like if there was any photos that weren't strong photos and they rewarded the portfolio which was solid they didn't want any photos that wernt strong.

INDIVIDUAL IMAGE

1) I agreed with them on the picture story of the ones with the racing dogs how he had good composition and captured all aspects of the race he had to and how he kept it tight and solid.

2) I disagree with the one judge who said the picture of the soccer player in the air with the crazy big expression on her face does nothing for him because I think its a great image. I like the emotion caught and how the photographer set up the picture it looks really powerful and really expresses great emotion.
