CONTESTS PREVIEW, SHOW AND TELL

ATPI Self Portrait Contest

I like this photo because its really stange and kinda creepy and dream like. I like the subject because its kinda strange and it makes you see things in a different way. I also love her use of the spotlight on her it gives this image a staged kinda street like quality/grittiness. I like the composition and how she set the camera up just straight ahead of her with a blank background because it makes it feel staged and it makes it like a story. The image is like a strange story or part of a movie almost and it makes me want to know more.

I like this photo because of its use of colors and the purple and black shadows and undertones it has in it. I also like its simplicity its just like a straight on picture but the way he messed with it and the light on his forehead gives it this unique and kinda dark mood.

The photo I'm talking about in this is the one of the creepy old lady in red. I like this photo because of its well planned composition and how she's off to the side a little bit and the black background for simplicity that makes us focus on her face. I also liked the different striking colors the photographer used together; the white of the woman, the red of her shall and the blackness of the background. Also the lighting in this photo is well done as she is bright and well lit while the background is pitch black which makes her really pop. The subject is really cool and interesting to look at as well.

5 WEBSITES #2

1) http://photographylife.com/what-is-vignetting
2) I learned about vignetting and the different types of vignetting. I learned that vignetting is the dark corners of the photographs that can be used to help the viewer focus on the subject. You can do vignetting in photoshop artificially and you can also do it with just lenses and certain filters and hood caps with wide lenses and a large aperture.
3) I learned about the different types of vignetting and that some people use it and some people don't use it and that it depends on the picture. If you're shooting a portrait or something with an up close subject vignetting would be good to help the viewer focus on your subject, but if your shooting large landscapes its better not to use vignetting.

a)I can take better photos through the use of vignetting and i could work on up close subjects and use the vignetting technique to really focus on the subject of the image.

b) I also learned you can get rid of vignetting on photoshop and lightroom and you can also add it in photoshop and lightroom artificially.

1) http://photographylife.com/what-is-moire
2) I learned what moire was. Moire is when you shoot something with repetitive details thats so much for the sensor to handle so it creates this wavy ill colored type thing. Moire is usually seen on our regular day to day lives not in nature. Hard to get rid off but there are some softwares that can help you reduce them.
3) I learned what moire was.
a) I can try to avoid it and notice it and look out for it when I'm shooting things with repetitive details.
b) He said lightroom 4 and capture NX for Nikon have moire reduction

HDR PHOTOGRAPHY

1) High Dynamic Range
2) To better show the color and depths of the image and how it would actually look in real life by using different exposures of the same image.
3) You take a bunch of different photos of the same subject at different exposures.
4) Yes, some cameras like the Red can shoot in HDR.
